The Lake Dauterive Well is an abandoned freestanding well located within a canal system of Lake Fausse Pointe, Louisiana. The well is associated with the Louisiana State Lease 293 and was previously operated by BCF Resources. A former platform is located adjacent to the well with no connection to tanks, piping or equipment. The well is not attached to the structure and consists of a valve tree extending from a 16-inch surface casing surrounded by a corrugated pipe cofferdam to contain potential oil leaks.

EPA was notified by the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office (LOSCO) that oil escaped the cofferdam and entered the surrounding canal surface water. LOSCO placed containment boom around the well and mobilized an Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO) to conduct recovery operations under a Pollution Removal Funding Authorization (PRFA) issued by EPA on August 13, 2026.  Initial recovery operations began on August 14, 2026, and concluded on August 17, 2026. An estimated 1,550 gallons of oil and impacted water was recovered.
