On August 17th at approximately 9 AM, the EPA was alerted by the National Response Center to a fire at a tank farm near Jenks, Oklahoma. The fire started when a lightning strike affected two tanks, which later spread to a third tank. The tanks contain condensate and gasoline. The local fire department is conducting fire suppression and has extinguished one tank. EPA deployed an on-scene coordinator and contractors to the incident to conduct air monitoring and assess the pathway of any spilled material. As of 1 pm CT, air monitoring has not detected any readings above action levels.

EPA is the lead response agency for this incident, working closely with state, local, and Tribal partners, including the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), to monitor the situation and coordinate response activities. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) are on site. Residents are reminded to listen to local authorities for safety instructions.

EPA will provide updates as new information becomes available.
