EPA is requesting permission to sample private residences near a potential area of concern in the Village of North Hudson to conduct a Removal Site Evaluation. In August 2026, Wisconsin DNR requested EPA assistance to address potentially contaminated soil near the former North Hudson Rail Shop. Private sampling at a residence near the former rail shop showed elevated lead levels and was later confirmed by EPA.

Due to historical industrial use, our area of interest is located along 4th Street between Sommers St. North and Wisconsin St. North in North Hudson, Wisconsin. The precise area of concern will be determined based on a thorough site evaluation. In fall 2026, EPA plans to conduct outreach to potentially impacted property owners near the area of concern, requesting access to yards to sample and determine whether action will be needed to remove lead contamination in soil.

To allow sampling, Access Agreements can be found at this link or in the "Documents" tab. Not all properties may be included in initial round of sampling.
