EPA Region 10 dispatched an FOSC and a START contractor to investigate reports from a private citizen indicating that an acid spill occurred at the Hampton Lumber Mills Inc. facility in Darrington, WA on 22 Jan 07. The reporting party also indicated that a worker had been tasked to mitigate the ongoing release by turning off the valve but was provided inadequate or inappropriate PPE and guidance with which to perform his duties. The EPA OSC and contractor accompanied two Washington State Department of Ecology spill investigators during the site visit on 24 Jan 07.
