Benson-Montin-Greer (BMG) Drilling Corp., Inc., notified the National Response Center on March 8, 2007, of a crude oil spill in an arroyo (Ojito Arroyo) located 80 miles south of Farmington, New Mexico in Rio Arriba County. The area of discharge was reported to be within the Jicarilla Apache Nation land. An initial discharge amount of 150 barrels of crude oil was initially reported to the NRC due to internal corrosion on the pipeline. The amount has been updated to approximately 400 barrels. The EPA phone duty officer notified OSC Enders and the START contractor to mobilize to the site on March 9, 2007 to conduct on-scene monitoring. BIA contacted the EPA and will notify the Jicarillo Apache Nation. The NMED and DOI were also contacted and notified of the EPA/START mobilization.
