The site is a mining era village where explosives were manufactured and transported via rail to various active mines in the Keweenaw area. Some evidence exists to indicate that waste materials and/or explosive materials may have been buried in drums at or near the Site. The manufacturing of explosives ceased in the 1960’s and since then many of the work buildings have been demolished or are in ruins.
A site assessment will be conducted to determine the presence and/or extent of alleged contaminants via various screening techniques.
