On March 1, 2010, the Ohio EPA (Ohio EPA) requested assistance in conducting a potential time critical removal action at the Armentrout Excavating Landfill Site in Xenia, Ohio. In October 2009, Ohio EPA collected groundwater samples from residential wells surrounding the former landfill. Six residential wells had arsenic concentrations above the maximum contaminant level (MCL). The highest concentration was 50.9 micrograms per liter (ug/L). The source of the groundwater contamination is the former Armentrout Excavating Landfill.
In March 2010, the US EPA conducted a site investigation including requesting access to sample impacted residential drinking water wells. The US EPA removal action was initiated on September 8, 2010 and includes installation of residential drinking water systems at 8 residences with elevated levels of arsenic due to site conditions.
The US EPA removal action was completed on December 2, 2010.
