On June 2, 2010, at approximately 1144 hrs, EPA received a report of a sheen sighting in the Bronx River. NYSDEC, Westchester County Health Department , local Police, Public Works and other local offcials, responded and traced the incident back to an apartment complex at 235 South Lexington Ave., in White Plains, NY. The flow of heating oil was followed through the sewer pipes to the Lexington Hills apartment building. Apparently there was a release in the basement during boiler repair work.

NYSDEC has hired a clean up contractor and is in the process of mitigating approximately 3-4 miles of material on the Bronx River.

EPA has responded to the incident and is supporting NYSDEC and the Westchester County Department of Health at the spill. This is not USCG jurisdiction. No report was received from the PRP by the NRC.
