On Friday, August 20, EPA Region 6 was notified of a truck fire, potentially involving hazardous materials, in Denton, Denton County, TX.

OSC Mason was dispatched to coordinate with local officials and determine if any assistance was needed for air monitoring or other sampling.

OSC Mason met with the Denton Fire and Police Department, as well as representatives from the TXDOT.

A truck, owned by Starrfoam Manufacturing, Fort Worth, had crashed underneath a bridge in north Denton (at the time of the accident, the cause was unknown).

A fire developed from leaking diesel fuel, which resulted in the entire cargo catching fire. The load of stryrofoam was rapidly consumed in the fire, as well as the cab of the truck. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes, and all run-off water was contained, and did not threaten a waterway.

No air monitoring support was needed as the fire had already been extinguished.
