On 12/14/2010 at approximately 0700, a discharge of crude oil was reported from the West Shore Pipeline (12-inch diameter pipe) in Lockport, Illinois. The discharge was discovered in response to an odor complaint by a nearby resident. An estimated 500 barrels (21,000 gallons) of crude oil was released into a drainage ditch which flows to a wetland area.


Additional absorbent boom was installed to mitigate the spread of product out of the containment area. Workers use vacuum hoses to pull sheen out of the recovery trench. Absorbent boom, containment boom, and hay bails have been installed around the extent of the oil plume. Work crews maintain skimmers in the recovery trenches. START splits surface water samples with Delta. Excavators scrape down to clean soil near the wetlands. Oil skimmers have been installed in the recovery trench.
