At approximately 1000 hrs on 8/26/2011, the Bangor Fire Department (BFD) Fire Chief Babcock requested U.S. EPA assistance at a chemical fire in Bangor, Michigan. U.S. EPA responded and mobilized START to conduct air monitoring and sampling activities.
U.S. EPA arrived on scene at approximately 13:15 with START. U.S. EPA observed smoke coming from the destroyed building, contaminated fire-suppression water located within the building footprint, and a room on the west side of the building contains approximately fifty small containers labeled as "corrosive" or "oxidizer".
The PRP mobilized a cleanup contractor who removed contaminated fire-suppression water and disposed of fire-damaged containers of hazardous substances.
