OSC Enders and START-3 were mobilized on 01.09.12 to assess site conditions for a fire at a plating facility in Houston, Texas. The incident was reported at 0647 hours by the Houston Fire Department - Hazmat Team (NRC Report #999890). The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Concerns include run-off from fire fighting activities and the structural integrity of the chemical storage container(s). Reported chemicals in the NRC report included hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, cadmium cyanide and sulfuric acid. EPA is coordinating with TCEQ, the Houston Hazmat Team, the City of Houston and their contractors and the Responsible Party. Potential navigable waterways include Sims Bayou and Buffalo Bayou. Heavy rains are forecasted throughout the day.
