On April 16, 2012, EPA and MDEQ officials responded to an NRC report from a citizen complaint regarding drums dumped in a vacant, wooded lot in West Bloomfield Charter Township, Michigan. EPA arrived on-scene and observed 16 drums and three 300-gallon totes, mostly full, illegally dumped approximately 450 feet off the main road. Based on field screening instruments, EPA collected four samples from the drums and sent them to a laboratory for 48-hour analysis. Drums were uprighted and secured using caution tape. EPA will evaluate the sample results and determine if a Removal Action is necessary.
