On 08/30/12, USCG Sector Puget Sound notified EPA Region 10 of an ammonia release aboard a fish processing vessel, the Pacific Producer, which is moored at Fisherman's Terminal, in Seattle, King County, Washington. Although the site is located within USCG Area of Responsibility (AOR) for response, the USCG requested EPA provide assistance with air monitoring assets. EPA has mobilized OSC Andy Smith and START contractors to the site to provide air monitoring assistance.

The ammonia release is reported to be mostly isolated to the vessel, and has only been slightly detected within approximately 100 feet radius. Fisherman's Terminal is the location of a marine fishing fleet, and is otherwise an industrial area. Seattle Fire/Hazmat is on scene and has boarded the vessel in order to assess the ammonia release and leak site.
