On Friday, October 5, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission notified the National Response Center (1026559) of a crude oil spill into Skelton Creek, which is located in Logan County, OK. The spill is estimated to be approximately 1 mile long (10-15 bbls) of oil, with the sheen just reaching the Cimarron River. The local emergency manager had a contractor put boom in the creek to contain much of the oil.
The OCC has requested EPA assistance to remove the oil, as this appears to have come from an abandoned pipeline (not fresh oil), and they have not identified a responsible party.
OSC Adams has been deployed, along with START. Adams will determine the necessity of activating ERRS for the removal of the oil.
