On September 4, 2014 the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago reported a sheen from an approximately 30' long sunken vessel in the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal at mile-post 318.5.

OSC Jacob Hassan mobilized to the incident, confirmed the sheen, and attempted to identify vessel ownership. However, nearly the entire vessel was submerged, so ownership was impossible to determine.

Therefore OSC Hassan opened the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund and mobilized ERRS to the incident. ERRS is booming the vessel to contain the sheen. Once the sheen is contained, the vessel will be raised.
