Local hunters recently notified the Louisiana DNR of a leaking orphaned well north of Greenwood, LA. LDNR inspected the well site and made repairs to the leaking well. Oil from the well release has saturated some adjacent soils and has also flowed into a nearby creek. On December 2, 2014, LDNR requested EPA's assistance in cleaning up the release in the creek and adjacent soils. OSC McAteer was mobilized to the site the same day. Both ERRS and START have also been activated and will meet the OSC along with LDNR at the well site the morning of December 3, 2014. Cleanup activities are anticipated to begin on December 3 in anticipation a rain event later this same week.
