2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section
The following activities occurred during the week of January 11:
  • The first was that all excavation underneath and around the storm sewer pipe were completed.  This involved removing sections of pipe near the damaged inlet.  Damaged sections of the storm sewer were also patched with cement and covered with clean fill.
  • The second was removing the damaged inlet at the eastern most portion of the storm sewer and cleaning out the contamination (soil, battery casings and chips) surrounding it.  Then, a new inlet box was installed to replace the old one.
  • On January 15, trucks started arriving to begin disposal of the stockpiled soil.

During the week of January 18:

  • Disposal of the contaminated soil continued throughout the week.  To date, 1,887 tons of non-hazardous soil have been disposed of.
  • On January 18, backfill operations began on the excavated areas of the Site.  These operations also continued throughout the week.
  • Results also came back on the main contaminant pile that had a TCLP reading of 5.5 mg/L the first time it was sampled, the second round of sampling showed the level to be at 6.9 mg/L.  Thus, the pile will be treated on site prior to disposal.
