Since the last reporting period, the asbestos contaminated debris in the second floor south room of Building 3 was wetted and shoveled into bags (double bagged) and moved to the 40 cubic yard closed rolloff container. All asbestos containing pipe insulation was also removed from the entire second floor area, as well as, the stairwell leading to the second floor. The north room and the stairwell of the building were washed and encapsulant was applied to all surfaces. The clearance testing of the main building was delayed due to scheduling conflicts with the third party air monitoring subcontractor. The air clearance testing of the main building will be conducted next week.
On December 1, 2010, the 40 cubic yard closed rolloff containing the ACM was shipped to Grows Landfill North for disposal. A compliance check conducted by EPA evidenced the Grows Landfill to be in CERCLA compliance.
On December 2, 2010, the OSC and the asbestos subcontractor conducted an inspection of the southwest corner room of Building 3 and observed an approximately 15 foot section of horizontal pipe and an approximately 10 foot section of vertical pipe covered with Suspected Asbestos Containing Material (SACM). The third floor of this area of Building 3 could not be accessed as the stairs have collapsed. The third floor will be accessed and assessed at a later date.
On December 3, 2010, the transite panels on the roof of the adjunct room to the elevator were removed and replaced with plywood. The transite panels in the electrical room were also removed. The collapsing section of basement roof was temporarily supported with adjustable lolly columns and the pieces of suspected asbestos containing roofing mastic lying in the debris were removed for disposal.
