  2.1 Operations Section
     Response Actions to Date

During the week of November 30, 2010, USEPA contractors continued preparation and sampling of containers; hazard categorization analysis of collected samples; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

 

Contractors prepared containers for sampling and collected 42 samples from vats, drums, and containers. 62 of the containers sampled to date were analyzed for hazard categorization.

 

Contractors consolidated liquids from the respective non-hazardous liquid and basic liquid waste streams, approximately 31 containers were consolidated.

 

Disposal composite samples were collected and transported to EA Group laboratory for analysis.

 

Republic Services’ National Serv-All Hauling division transported one 20-cubic yard roll-off box containing RCRA empty containers and debris (Manifest #TR002) to National Serv-All Landfill (Republic Services) in Fort Wayne, IN, on December 2, 2010.

 

Air monitoring was conducted during all operations, no elevated readings were detected.  Air monitoring equipment includes an ISC Gas Badge Pro to monitor for HCN, a MultiRAE, and four AreaRAE units .

 

 

On December 13, 2010, USEPA contractors remobilized to the site and continued loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box; and consolidating liquids from the respective non-hazardous liquid and basic liquid waste streams.

 

A Chemist was mobilized to the site to segregate and lab pack all small containers.

 

 

On December 14, 2010, USEPA contractors continued lab packing small containers and consolidating liquids from the respective non-hazardous liquid and basic liquid waste streams.

 

Republic Services’ National Serv-All Hauling division transported one 20-cubic yard roll-off box containing RCRA empty containers and debris (Manifest #TR003) to National Serv-All Landfill (Republic Services) in Fort Wayne, IN, on December 14, 2010.

 

 

On December 15, 2010, USEPA contractors continued lab packing small containers; consolidating liquids from the respective non-hazardous liquid and basic liquid waste streams; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

 

Drums and containers on site were rearranged and organized according to compatibility and waste disposal categories.

 

Four cylinders were returned to Welder Services, Incorporated. Fourteen fire extinguishers were returned to Fire Equipment Services, Incorporated.

 

 

On December 16, 2010, USEPA contractors continued lab packing small containers; arranging and organizing drums and containers according to compatibility and waste grouping; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

 

Nine cylinders were returned to Welder’s Services, Incorporated.

 

 

On December 17, 2010, USEPA contractors continued lab packing small containers; arranging and organizing drums and containers according to compatibility and waste grouping; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

 

Republic Services’ National Serv-All Hauling division transported one 20-cubic yard roll-off box containing RCRA empty containers and debris (Manifest #TR004) to National Serv-All Landfill (Republic Services) in Fort Wayne, IN, on December 17, 2010.

 

 

On December 18, 2010, USEPA contractors continued lab packing small containers; arranging and organizing drums and containers according to compatibility and waste grouping; consolidating liquids from the respective non-hazardous liquid and corrosive liquid waste streams; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

 

Overhead 4” and  2” piping leading from the plating line to the water treatment system was dismantled.

 

Six cylinders were returned to Welder’s Services, Incorporated.

 

 

On December 20, 2010, USEPA contractors continued lab packing small containers; arranging and organizing drums and containers according to compatibility and waste grouping; consolidating liquids from the respective non-hazardous liquid and corrosive liquid waste streams; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

Small containers were sampled and analyzed for hazard categorization.

 

Completed dismantling 2” pipe leading from plating line to waste water treatment area.

 

 

On December 21, 2010, USEPA contractors continued sampling and analyzing small containers for hard categorization;  lab packing small containers; consolidating liquids from the respective non-hazardous liquid and corrosive liquid waste streams; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

 

On December 22, 2010, USEPA contractors continued sampling and analyzing small containers for hard categorization;  lab packing small containers; consolidating liquids from the corrosive liquid waste stream; and loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box.

 

Republic Services’ National Serv-All Hauling division transported one 20-cubic yard roll-off box containing RCRA empty containers and debris (Manifest #TR005) to National Serv-All Landfill (Republic Services) in Fort Wayne, IN, on December 22, 2010.

 

 

On December 23, 2010, USEPA contractors continued loading RCRA empty containers and debris into the 20 cubic yard roll-off box, and secured the building prior to the holiday demobilization break.

 

 

Site activities will resume on January 17, 2010. The Allen County Building Department will be checking on the building to verify security during the USEPA break.
