     Response Actions to Date

On January 17, 2011, USEPA contractors remobilized to the site and prepared drums for shipment.

 

On January 18, 2011, USEPA contractors cut, crushed, and loaded RCRA empty containers into the 20-cubic-yard roll-off box; prepared drums and containers for shipment, and submitted a disposal composite sample to the laboratory for analysis.

 

Chemtron Corporation transported approximately 2,640 gallons of Non-Hazardous Non-Regulated Material (Liquid Stream #3) (Manifest # 006246163 JJK) to Chemtron Corporation in Avon, Ohio.

 

On January 19, 2011, USEPA contractors overpacked containers and properly labeled drums in preparation for shipment; and cut, crushed and loaded RCRA empty containers into the 20-cubic-yard roll-off box.

 

On January 20, 2011, USEPA contractors pumped contents out of and cleaned the vats in the plating room; staged drums according to waste streams in preparation for transportation and disposal; continued cutting, crushing, and loading RCRA empty containers into the 20-cubic-yard roll-off box.

 

Chemtron Corporation transported 65 containers from various waste streams (Manifest #006246181 JJK) to Chemtron Corporation in Avon, Ohio.

 

On January 21, 2011, USEPA contractors pumped, cleaned, and demolished a 900-gallon poly tank containing 600 gallons of cyanide liquid; cleaned and demolished empty cyanide drums; consolidated contents of small containers in the cyanide waste stream; and continued cutting, crushing, and loading RCRA empty containers into the 20-cubic-yard roll-off box.

 

On January 22, 2011, USEPA contractors consolidated and packaged non-hazardous solids; overpacked cyanide drums as needed; cleaned and demolished vats from the plating room; and continued cutting, crushing, and loading RCRA empty containers into the 20-cubic-yard roll-off box.

 

On January 24, 2011, USEPA contractors pumped, cleaned, and demolished various vats from the plating room; relocated containers inside the building to thaw prior to disposal; and mobilized a chemist to assist with lab pack shipment.

 

Republic Services’ National Serv-All Hauling division transported one 20-cubic-yard roll-off box containing RCRA empty containers and debris (Manifest #TR006) to National Serv-All Landfill (Republic Services) in Fort Wayne, IN.

 

On January 25, 2011, USEPA contractors labeled containers for lab pack shipment; pumped, cleaned, and demolished various vats from the plating room; mobilized a high reach forklift to relocate drums from the second floor of building to the courtyard of the building; completed profiles for several remaining waste streams; and continued cutting, crushing, and loading RCRA empty containers into the 20-cubic-yard roll-off box.

 

Veolia ES Industrial Services, Inc. transported 43 containers  (Manifest # 006812965 JJK, 17614, 006812962 JJK, 006812980 JJK, 006812963 JJK, 006812957 JJK, 006812975 JJK, 006812960 JJK, 006812958 JJK) to Environmental Enterprises, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio.

 

On January 26, 2011, USEPA contractors pumped, cleaned, and demolished various vats from the plating room; labeled drums in preparation for shipment; packaged various solids in preparation for shipment; and completed additional profiles.

 

On January 27, 2011, USEPA contractors completed pumping, cleaning, and demolishing vats from the plating room; scraped and rinsed the floor of the plating room; continued cutting, crushing, and loading RCRA empty containers into the 20-cubic-yard roll-off box; sampled solids from vat bottoms; and demobilized the chemist.

 

The OSC and Response Manager conducted a walk through of the site to identify any additional or remaining tasks.

 

Air monitoring was conducted during all operations, no elevated readings were detected.  Air monitoring equipment includes an ISC Gas Badge Pro to monitor for HCN, and a  MultiRAE.

 

On February 8, 2011, USEPA contractors cleared snow from the site and prepared and staged drums for shipment.

 

On February 9, 2011, USEPA contractors overpacked, labeled, and staged drums in preparation for shipment. 

 

Republic Services’ National Serv-All Hauling division transported one 20-cubic-yard roll-off box containing RCRA empty containers and debris (Manifest #TR007) to National Serv-All Landfill (Republic Services) in Fort Wayne, IN.

 

Chemtron Corporation transported 45 containers from various waste streams (Manifest #007597893 JJK) to Chemtron Corporation in Avon, Ohio.

 

On February 10, 2011, USEPA contractors overpacked, labeled, and staged drums in preparation for shipment. 

 

Republic Services’ National Serv-All Hauling division transported one 20-cubic-yard roll-off box containing RCRA empty containers and debris (Manifest #TR008) to National Serv-All Landfill (Republic Services) in Fort Wayne, IN.

 

Chemtron Corporation transported 54 containers from various waste streams (Manifest #007597907 JJK ) to Chemtron Corporation in Avon, Ohio.

 

The USEPA OSC and contractors demobilized from the site.  All removal activities are complete.
