2.1.2 Response Actions to Date 

On January 9, 2012, Midwest hauled off 2 loads (12,400 gal) of oily water from the control structure to United Waste Water Inc.’s facility in Cincinnati, OH.
  • Midwest continued cleaning the control structure.
  • Midwest pumped approximately 24,000 gallons of water from the east million gallon bunker to the west million gallon bunker so that they can start scraping the bottom of the east bunker tank.
  • EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into a solidification box and mixing it with paper pulp and TerraBond solidification media.
  • EQ hauled off (6) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
  • EQ received (2) 50,000 pound load of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
  • Trihydro was unable to treat water due to frozen lines.
  • Trihydro had a representative from McAllister Machinery on site to evaluate machinery and safety equipment for work in the bunker tanks.
On January 10, 2012, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,200 gal) of oily water from the control structure to United Waste Water Inc.’s facility in Cincinnati, OH.
  • Midwest received (2) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
  • Midwest scraped the bottom east corner of the east bunker tank with a long reach excavator so that there would be no solidified sludge under the selected fill material.  A photo taken from the southeast corner of the east bunker tank is attached to this POLREP.
  • Midwest continued cleaning the control structure.
  • Midwest solidified control structure sludge in the solidification pits.
  • EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into a solidification box and mixing it with paper pulp and lime solidification media.
  • EQ hauled off (6) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
  • EQ received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
  • Trihydro representative Ken Gollon, AVS (subcontractor to Trihydro) and START Rauh visited two potential "cement cleanout" fill sources for recon.
  • Trihydro believes that this material will ease EPA’s concerns since it comes from a single source (cement mixing facility) and the small size will minimize potential void space problems.
  • Trihydro collected samples of the material for laboratory analysis.
On January 11, 2012, Midwest hauled off 6 loads (35,932 gal) of oily water from the control structure, the Tank 51 frac tank, and the primary separator to United Waste Water Inc.’s facility in Cincinnati, OH.
  • 0.4” of rain fell overnight and during the day.
  • Midwest hauled off 5 totes (1,375 gal) of flocculent, 500 pounds of soda ash, and 500 pounds of citric acid United Waste Water Inc.’s facility in Cincinnati, OH for recycling.
  • Midwest continued cleaning the control structure. 
  • Midwest solidified control structure sludge in the solidification pits.
  • EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into solidification boxes and mixing it with paper pulp and lime solidification media.
  • EQ hauled off (9) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
  • EQ received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH. 
  • Roger Ward Engineering was on site continuing survey work to help them prepare their long term stormwater management plan.
  • Trihydro representative Ken Gollon, AVS (subcontractor to Trihydro) and START Rauh visited a third potential bunker tank fill source.
  • Trihydro collected samples of the material for laboratory analysis.
On January 12, 2012, Midwest hauled off 5 loads (28,200 gal) of oily water from the control structure and frac tank 11 to United Waste Water Inc.’s facility in Cincinnati, OH.
  • 0.3” of rain and snow fell overnight and during the day.
  • Midwest continued cleaning the control structure.
  • Midwest solidified control structure sludge in the solidification pits.
  • EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into solidification boxes and mixing it with paper pulp and lime solidification media.
  • EQ hauled off (5) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
  • EQ received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
    On January 13, 2012, Midwest continued cleaning in the chemical building.
    • 0.1” of snow (melted for measurement) fell overnight and during the day.
    • Midwest worked on maintaining equipment.
    • EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into solidification boxes and mixing it with paper pulp and lime solidification media. 
    • EQ hauled off (2) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
    • EQ received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
    • EQ mobilized a larger sludge pump.
    • AVS was on site to begin evaluating bunker tank access.
    The wood pulp and sawdust solidification materials are reclaimed/recycled products.  As of January 6, 2012, approximately 12,650,000 pounds of wood pulp solidification media, 1,800 tons of sawdust solidification media have been used to solidify sludge.  Additionally, 880 tons of lime solidification media and 45 tons of TerraBond solidification media had been used to solidify waste sludge.
