SWPPP controls and BMPs are being inspected daily. Wood from the mill and barn building demolition was sorted and excess scrap metal was removed and the wood was placed in the impoundment.  Dave Rees, OSC, was onsite on October 28, 2014 to review progress. Onsite options were discussed regarding the approach of breaking up the wood from the building demolition.  It was decided by Mr. Rees and Jim Fricke that the wood can be broken down by using tracked heavy equipment (D6 Dozer or equivalent).  This change from the original workplan was due to the safety issues raised by the wood chipping operator due to the metal remaining in the mixed debris. A demonstration of this mechanical crushing technique was prepared by REMC and approved by Mr. Rees.

Approximately 1,000 cubic yards (cyds) of material was removed from the slough area west of Goldfield Mine Road and placed on the impoundment. Approximately 800 cyds of clean fill material was excavated and used to reclaim the slough area and insure a 3:1 slope ratio was achieved along the Goldfield Mine Road. On October 29, Northwest Liner arrived on Site and deployed the HDPE liner. Approximately 1,000 cyds of high-lead soils (>9,999 ppm lead) were excavated from the mill area and placed on the HDPE liner. It is anticipated that Northwest Liner will weld the HDPE liner the week of November 3, 2014.

On October 30th approximately 80 cubic yards of scrap metal was hauled off this site by Real Steel Recycling, it is anticipated that two more loads are required to complete scrap metal removal.

An REMC representative collected samples from the following drums for analytical testing: a drum labeled Cyanamid II found in the “oil shop” on-Site and the reinforced drum containing an unknown white solid. The samples were delivered to Emerald Services on October 31, 2014.

Sampling:

Air samples were collected from three locations on October 30th.

Air samples were sent for lab analysis on October 31, 2014.

Analytical results for the soil and water samples collected on October 13 and October 15, respectively, were received on October 31, 2014. The analytical results for soil and surface water samples are attached to this report as Table 1 and Table 2, respectively.

Analytical results for the following air samples were received on October 31, 2014. The analytical results are presented below:

  2.2 Planning Section
    2.2.1 Anticipated Activities

Anticipated Activities for November 3rd to November 7th:

Scrap metal will be hauled off site for recycling and wood will be broken up using tracked heavy machinery in the impoundment.

The HDPE liner containing high-lead soils will be welded.

Lower concentration contaminated soils in the surrounding and mill areas will be placed on the tailings impoundment.

Air samples will be collected on Site as frequently as practical.

Excavation of contaminated soils will be guided by screening with a field-portable X-Ray Fluorescence Meter (XRF).
