    2.1.1 Narrative

August 10 – 15, 2015

SWPP controls and BMPs were inspected on-site prior to work each day. Approximately 4,000 cubic yards (cyds) of top soil was excavated and placed on the impoundment. Thickness of top soil was guided by grade stakes. Approximately 500 cyds of ecological barrier, 1,500 cyds of cover soils, and 300 cyds of top soil were placed in the treed areas east of the impoundment. Approximately 3,200 cyds of top soil and 100 cyds of cover soil were placed on surrounding borrow areas. Contouring of the borrow pit began. No air samples were collected during this week.

August 17 – 21, 2015

SWPP controls and BMPs were inspected on-site prior to work each day. Approximately 100 cyds of topsoil was placed in the mill area near the “museum”. A 3-string barbed-wire fence was constructed around the perimeter of the impoundment. An access road to the southern perimeter gate of the impoundment was constructed to allow access to the impoundment. Shaping of the cover soil borrow area was completed. Harrier Creek Road and Goldfield Mine Road were regraded. Heavy machinery was demobilized from the site on August 21, 2015. There were no air samples collected during this week.

August 24 – 28, 2015

No activities were conducted on-site this week. No samples were collected on-site this week.

August 31 – September 4, 2015u

Following a large rain event, an ACI employee conducted a site visit and completed a SWPPP Report. Overall, the site was in good condition and the stormwater controls were successful. No samples were collected on-site this week.

September 7 – 11, 2015

No activities were conducted on-site this week. No samples were collected on-site this week.

September 14 – 17, 2015

Confirmation samples of the impoundment surface were collected on September 14 – 15, 2015. A total of 75 discrete x-ray fluorescence confirmation soil samples were collected. Concentrations of lead ranged from non-detect (in 61 of the 75 samples) to a high of 125 ppm. Sampling results will be presented in the monthly report (which is posted to the documents section of this website). Three surface water samples were collected from South Fork Deep Creek on September 15, 2015. Sample results did not indicate the presence of any metals above any screening criteria. Additional “No Trespassing” signs were posted on the north and south end of the impoundment.

September 21 – 25, 2015

Revegetation of excavation areas were conducted from September 23 – 26, 2015. Prior to drill seeding, areas were disked and harrowed. The impoundment, north and south of Harrier Creek Road, cover soil borrow pit, and the mill area were drill seeded. Following the drill seeding, the above locations were hydro seeded. Some areas adjacent to the Sierra Zinc Mine/Mil where excavation activities were conducted were not drill seeded due to limited access and size.
