1.1.2 Site Description
The site is the former Hoosier Wood Preservers. The facility was operated as a wood treating business that used chromated copper arsenate (CCA) and borate in pressurized wood treatment cylinders. The facility has been abandoned for several years.
The site is 7.75 acres in size and has eight buildings, including process buildings, storage buildings, a garage, and office.

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On May 28, 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its contractors:
- Continued reconnaissance and staging containers;
- Continued over-packing degraded containers;
- Collected or attempted to collect samples from 46 drums;
- Performed Level C and Level B entries;
- Performed hazard categorization (haz-cat) on samples. Haz-cat results are below;
- Segregated and packaged small containers; and
- Procured a roll-off box for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)-empty containers.
Of the 46 drums referenced above, 35 contained solids/powder. All appeared to contain green-colored material. Each of
the solid samples had a pH between 5 and 6 and was negative for
oxidizers.
Seven of the drums contained liquids. Four of the liquid drums had flammable and organic contents.
Each of the liquid drums was determined to have non-chlorinated contents and pH of
5 to 6.
Three of the 46 drums were empty. One drum appeared to be empty but could not be opened safely
at the time of sampling.
2.1.3 Enforcement Activities, Identity of Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs)
EPA identified the current property owner and the former operator of the wood treating business. Information on these parties is in the site file.
