2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section
The following actions have taken place at the Site during this reporting period:

On December 14, ERRS finished up excavation activities prior to the Christmas/New Year break.  So far approximately 2000 cubic yards (cuyd) of soil have been excavated.  All of this excavation is located south of the storm sewer and up the adjacent slope.  Also on the 14th, START began sampling the bottom of the excavated areas for screening purposes to determine if further removal is necessary.

Most of the day on December 15 was spent dewatering an area of the excavation where rain and groundwater accumulate.  This area also happens to be where most of the battery casings and chips were found during the removal.  Water was pumped into a frac tank for future analysis for release.

On December 16, ERRS began grading out some of the areas for erosion control during the break.  START began sampling areas outside of the original area to determine the extent of contamination.

START continued this sampling on the 17th while ERRS spent the day conducting decon on the heavy equipment and securing the Site.

All crews demobilized on the 18th.

  2.2 Planning Section

2.2.1 Anticipated Activities

    2.2.1.1 Planned Response Activities

All crews will be demobilized from the Site from December 19, 2009 through January 3, 2010 for Christmas and New Years Holidays.  They will mobilize back to the Site on January 4th with work beginning on the 5th.  Once crews return, the primary focus will initially be on disposal of contaminated materials and back-filling of excavated areas.  Beyond that, further excavation will be needed in several areas of the Site.  Among these are around the eastern most storm sewer inlet and underneath the storm sewer itself in several locations.

    2.2.1.2 Next Steps

Beyond the activities mentioned above Site Restoration is all that would remain.

2.2.2 Issues

Issues at this site include the proximity of residences which includes vehicle and foot traffic.  Rain also continues to be an issue during the excavation.  The final issue is the presence of ground water infiltration into the excavated areas.
