2.1 Operations Section
|
|
|
The following activities occurred during the week of January 23:
- The main contaminant stockpile was mixed with triple phosphate in order to bind the lead and reduce the TCLP number. The mixing was successful as the TCLP number for the stockpile was dropped to 0.27 mg/L.
- The large tulip polar tree that was damaged during excavation was removed.
- All of the clay backfill was completed.
- EPA also obtained approval from NC DENR to release the water collected in an on-site frac tank into the stream onsite under diffuse flow conditions.
Over the weekend on January 30-31 the Salisbury area received approximately 8 inches of snow. Site activities were limited to the following during the week of February 1:
- Approximately 19,000 gallons of water contained in the frac tank was released on February 1. The sludge remaining in the bottom of the frac tank was added tot he contaminant pile.
- All removal of contaminated soil was completed. This also included soils that were underneath the stockpile areas.
- Due to the snow melt and more rain during the week, topsoil and seeding operations could not be completed.
- Rather than have the ERRS crew sitting and waiting for the ground to dry up, they demobilized on February 6 until site conditions are right for the remaining activities.
