A Removal Site Evaluation (RSE) was conducted in response to a request from the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The Villa Mobile Home Park Battery Dump Site (the Site) is isolated to a small portion of the Villa Mobile Home Park located in Kannapolis, Cabarrus County, North Carolina. The mobile home park is comprised of several parcels over 10 acres of land containing approximately 54 mobile homes. It is bound to the north and west by Verona Street, to the south by Irene Street and to the east by McLain Road. The primary area of concern is located to the southeast of the intersection of Verona and Venice Streets. The extent of the buried battery casings and associated contamination is unknown at this time, although estimated to be contained within three parcels of the property.
Several investigations have been performed on the property to date. S&ME, consultant to NCDENR, conducted an investigation in which borings were conducted using direct push technology. Through this investigation they estimated approximately 2,600 cubic yards of material containing battery casings.

2.1.1 Narrative
Following an investigation by NC DENR Superfund Section, aassistance was requested to further delineate the area of contamination and determine if a remEPA conducted a removal assessment and found elevated lead levels in a area near a drainage system. The PRP, Owner of Villa Mobile Home Park, agreed to have this area covered with plastic and rip rap to prevent exposure from direct contact as well as erosion and potential migration down-gradient.
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On Sept. 1st and Sept. 2nd, the area containing the elevated lead levels was covered with plastic and rip rap.
EPA confirmed that the work was completed on Sept. 2nd. The owner was informed that this area needed to be maintained, and that it must remain covered.
