2.1.1 Narrative
At the request of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), EPA responded to an overturned tanker truck at the corner of Schaper Road and Highway N in Wentzville, Missouri. Haz-Mat teams were on the scene from Wentzville and from St. Charles County. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) was also on the scene. The tanker truck, carrying approximately 8,600 gallons of gasoline, ran off the road and turned over in a ditch.
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
The local Haz-Mat teams assessed the situation, plugged a small leak in the front of the tanker and notifed the potentially repsonsible party (PRP).
MoDOT delivered several loads of sand to slow the flow of gasoline in the ditch.
The PRP dispatched a cleanup company and a tow truck to the scene. The material still in the tanker was transferred to another tanker and the damaged tanker was then uprighted.
The PRP's cleanup company then excavated the contaminated soil and disposed it at a local landfill. All soil was removed and the area restored by October 30, 2010.
