2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
The PRP initiated cleanup activities on 11/06/10 by placing absorbent boom and pads along the nearby drainage ditch and the unnamed creek. Additionally, a vacuum truck was used to remove some of the used oil from along the unnamed creek. Approximately 3,200 gallons of an oil contaminated soil/water mixture and 2 yards of oil contaminated soil were removed and disposed of off-Site at an approved disposal facility. The PRP retained AllWest Testing & Engineering to perform additional cleanup activities. All activities were performed in accordance with EPA and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality approved work plans and oversight.
The PRP's contractor arrived at the Site on 12/06/2010 to remove used oil contaminated soils near the shop building and below the floor drain outfall to the drainage ditch. Environmental samples revealed further contamination, and the contractor returned on 12/22/2010 to conduct additional cleanup. During these two events, an estimated 28 yards of oil contaminated soil was removed from the affected drainage ditch and disposed of off-Site at an approved disposal facility. Inclement winter weather forced the suspension of cleanup activities until the spring.
The PRP's contractor returned on 04/28 - 29/2011 and completed all cleanup activities needed along the unnamed stream bed and banks (a distance of about 500 feet) and adjoining properties. Approximately 3,500 gallons of an oil contaminated soil/water mixture was removed and disposed of off-Site at an approved disposal facility, along with about 19,400 pounds of contaminated absorbent materials.
Best management practices were implemented to control for erosion and sedimentation during all cleanup activities.
