1.1.1 Incident Category

1.1.2 Site Description
The site is the location of Fleetwood Heating and Cooling.  At approximately 1000 hrs on 8/26/2011, the Bangor Fire Department (BFD) Fire Chief Babcock requested U.S. EPA assistance at a chemical fire in Bangor, Michigan.

1.1.2.1 Location
101 Cemetery Road, Bangor, Michigan 49013

1.1.2.2 Description of Threat
U.S. EPA observed smoke coming from the destroyed building, contaminated fire-suppression water located within the building footprint, and a room on the west side of the building contains approximately fifty small containers labeled as "corrosive" or "oxidizer".

1.1.3 Preliminary Removal Assessment/Removal Site Inspection Results
U.S. EPA responded and mobilized START to conduct air monitoring and sampling activities.

The PRP mobilized a cleanup contractor who is currently on-scene and will begin stabilizing containers and removing contaminated fire-suppression water at 0800 hrs on 8/27/11, when the building has been made safe for entry.
