Release of corrosive  material into storm drain from a vacant property
1.1.2.1 Location
83 King Road, Trenton, Mi

1.1.2.2 Description of Threat
Down river emergency response team  and Trenton Fire chief reported discharge of an unknown material in the run off  from  this vacant property  entering the storm drain and requested EPA assistance.

1.1.3 Preliminary Removal Assessment/Removal Site Inspection Results


The storm drain discharges into Detroit River approximately 1/2 mile downstream. Field pH measurement of the water runoff was recorded at 11.5.


2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section
    2.1.1 Narrative
Property owner , Edward C. Levy Co was contacted.  Edward C, Levy responded promptly  at 5.30 PM and implemented their Emergency Response Protocol.


2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On 4/24/2013 Levy Company hired EQ Industrial services to coordinate cleanup efforts. Marine Pollution Control was brought in to power wash the edge  (inpacted area) of King road , in tandem with a vac truck to remove the lime precipitate and impacted storm water. Approximately 400 gallons of storm water was removed from the site for disposal through EQ.
On 4/25/13 cracks in the asphalt paved entrance were sealed. A berm was constructed of a sand clay mixture and covered with a layer of 6 A stone to minimize storm water erosion of the berm.

This response/ removal was conducted by the PRP , Edw. C. Levy Co.
