1.1.2.2 Description of Threat
Crude oil discharged from an oil well into John's Creek, which ultimately flows to the Big Sandy River. This spills is a discharge of oil to waters of the U.S.
1.1.3 Preliminary Removal Assessment/Removal Site Inspection Results
On November 19th 2013 KY DEP discovered a leaking abandoned oil well that had discharged an estimated 1bbl of crude oil into John’s Creek, which is a tributary of Dewey Lake. OSC Ball issued a PRFA to KY DEP on November 20, 2013 to conduct a clean-up and the well has been referred to the abandoned oil well plugging program for assessment.
