After obtaining a self storage property in Kelso, WA, for eventual demolition and development, the city discovered a storage unit filled with multiple containers of known and unknown chemicals of various sizes such as acids, bases, petroleum additives, etc., and which were stored improperly and potentially dangerously. The Kelso Police Dept., the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Department and the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) responded to the site. After an initial entry by the Sheriff's Dept was conducted to assess the site for drug lab contents (it was deemed not be a drug lab), Ecology then made entry to assess and inventory the chemicals, and contacted EPA Region 10 for further assistance.
