At approximately 08:01 on July 24, 2018, the Nation Response Center notified the EPA about a transportation accident involving the release of approximately 1500 gallons of diesel fuel from a tanker owned by Usher Transport. The incident occurred at approximately 02:30 hours on July 24, 2018, near 1509 SC-101 in Greer, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Control responded to the incident. A Region 4 OSC was also dispatched to the incident. The fire department along with contractors hired by the transportation company patched the tank and transferred the remaining fuel to another tanker. A vacuum truck was utilized to collect the fuel pooled in a ditch adjacent to the accident and workers excavated contaminated soil with a track hoe. The EPA OSC demobilized from the response.
