At 1400 CST February 16, 2007, Valero Refinery in SunRay had an explosion causing a fire. The explosion occurred in their propane de-asphalting (PDA) Unit. The explosion impacted fire fighting capabilities. Fire fighting capabilities were re-established at approximately 2000 hrs. The fire continued until about 0400 on February 17, 2007. OSC Moore and Dallas START responded to the incident.

According to Valero's repesenatitive a total of three injuries - (1) serious burned victim careflighted to Lubbock, (1) transported via ambulance and (1) treated on-scene. At this time no off-site impact but high media interest.
