On the morning of June 12, 2015, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) contacted the EPA Region 7 spill line to request assistance in addressing a drum that was leaking petroleum product on the banks of the Wakarusa River near Topeka, Kansas. After reviewing the photos sent by KDHE it was apparent that a release to a navigable water had occurred. The Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund was opened (FPN E15706), an OSC dispatched and our Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor activated.
