At approximately 0430 hours on Monday, July 29, 2019, a fire erupted at the Werner & Son Recycling facility in Frankfort, Indiana. The facility, which is in close proximity to a residential neighborhood, provided commercial and residential recycling services, managing plastics, cardboard, clear and color film, and aluminum, tin and steel cans. The fire spread to an adjacent building, which collapsed.
EPA provided air monitoring support and technical assistance to the Frankfort Fire Department, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the Clinton County Health Department, and the Clinton County Emergency Management Agency.
