October 21st - October 26th, 2024 Update 10/28/2024 Site Update

EPA and its contractors (Emergency and Rapid Response Services [ERRS] and Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team [START]) continued Site activities. Activities completed during this period included:

  • EPA and its contractors continued to use engineering controls and best practices for dust suppression, noise and safety. 
  • ERRS contractors completed gathering and loading-out ACM debris to the landfill. 
  • Approximate tonnage of ACM material was 4,177 tons. Recycled metal debris: 35.27 tons. 
  • The crew begin restoration of the site with clean backfill material from a local vendor. This task is estimated to take 10 - 12 days.
  • START continued daily air monitoring sampling for asbestos at 4 locations along the perimeter of the site.  Once loadout of ACM was completed, this effort was discontinued. 


October 13 - October 19 Update 10/19/2024 Site Update

EPA and its contractors (Emergency and Rapid Response Services [ERRS] and Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team [START]) continued Site activities. Activities completed during this period included:

  • EPA and its contractors continue to use engineering controls and best practices for dust suppression, noise and safety. 
  • ERRS contractors continue gathering and loading-out ACM debris to the landfill.  A total of 196 truck loads of ACM material have been sent off to the landfill for disposal.
  • Approximate tonnage of ACM debris material - 3200/Approximate cubic yards of ACM material - 3300/Recycled metal debris - 35.3 tons. 
  • Crews are estimated to complete load-out of ACM material by October 23 and shortly thereafter begin restoration of the site with clean backfill material from a local vendor. This task is estimated to take 10 - 12 days.
  • START continues daily air monitoring sampling for Asbestos at 4 locations along the perimeter of the site.


October 6th - October 12th Update 10/12/2024 Site Update

EPA and its contractors (Emergency and Rapid Response Services [ERRS] and Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team [START]) continued Site activities. Activities completed during this period included:

  • EPA coordinated with local officials and community members regarding site operations, including Glendive Public Works.
  • ERRS personnel continued spraying water onto the debris for dust control.
  • ERRS continued sorting debris to segregate larger pieces of metal and stockpile material for future loadout and transportation/disposal. One bin (20 cubic yards) was transported offsite to a local scrap metal recycler. 
  • Transportation and disposal activities began; through Saturday October 12, a total of 75 trucks & 1367 tons were transported to the Glendive Landfill for disposal.
  • START conducted air sampling for asbestos at four locations along the site perimeter.


October 3rd - October 5th Update 10/5/2024 Site Update

EPA and its contractors (Emergency and Rapid Response Services [ERRS] and Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team [START]) continued Site activities. Activities completed during this period included:

  • EPA coordinated with local officials and community members regarding site operations, including Glendive Public Works.
  • ERRS personnel continued spraying water onto the debris for dust control.
  • ERRS continued sorting debris to segregate larger pieces of metal and stockpile material for future loadout and transportation/disposal.
  • START conducted air sampling for asbestos at four locations along the site perimeter.


September 30th - October 2nd Update 10/3/2024 Site Update

EPA and its contractors (Emergency and Rapid Response Services [ERRS] and Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team [START]) mobilized to the Site and began setup for the planned work on Monday, September 30th. Activities completed during this period included:

  • EPA coordinated with local officials and community members regarding site operations, including Glendive Public Works.
  • ERRS received equipment and supplies (including excavators, skid steer, water truck, boom lift, and scissor lift) needed for completion of removal activities.
  • ERRS installed temporary 6-foot fence (including signage for asbestos) along the site perimeter.
  • ERRS personnel began spraying water onto the debris for dust control.
  • ERRS began sorting debris to segregate larger pieces of metal and stockpile material for future loadout and transportation/disposal.
  • START conducted air sampling for asbestos at four locations along the site perimeter.
