Public Meeting Held on December 4th 11/22/2013 Public Meeting
A public meeting for the Allied Paper/Portage Creek/Kalamazoo River site was held on Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30pm at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, 100 W. Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo.  Updates were provided on the Portage Creek dredging project and other Kalamazoo River clean up efforts. An updated Fact Sheet was posted to the 'documents' section of the website.

KRVT Re-opened on October 23rd 10/24/2013 Site Update
The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail between Michigan Avenue and Harrison Street was re-opened on Wednesday afternoon, October 23rd. EPA sincerely appreciates the patience and understanding of all KRVT users and apologizes for the inconvenience during the project.

Excavation Complete in SA1A 9/27/2013 Site Update
On Wednesday, September 25th, crews completed excavation of PCB contaminated sediments in SA1A (Portage Creek from Michigan Avenue bridge to Kalamazoo River). Crews have completed re-construction of the creek channel & banks, and have removed all equipment/supplies/materials from the area.

Excavation Complete in SA1-C&B 7/31/2013 Site Update
On Wednesday, July 31st, crews completed excavation of PCB contaminated sediments and backfilling in SA1-C&B (Portage Creek from Rochester Avenue to Parkway Drive). Crews are removing all equipment, supplies and materials from SA1-C&B to the staging area and setting up bypass and isolation dewatering systems for dredging of the next section (SA1A), anticipated to begin in early September.

Excavation Complete in SA3A 6/13/2013 Site Update
On Thursday, June 13th, crews completed excavation of PCB contaminated sediments and backfilling in SA3A (Portage Creek from Pitcher Street to Grand Elk railroad bridge). Crews have removed all equipment, supplies and materials from SA3A and moved it to the next section (SA1C & SA1B).  Excavation of this area is expected to begin in mid-July.

Excavation Complete in SA5A 5/22/2013 Site Update
On Friday, May 17th, crews completed excavation of PCB contaminated sediments and backfilling in SA5A (Portage Creek from Dutton Street to Walnut Street).  Dutton Street re-opened to traffic on Tuesday, May 21st and the Bronson parking lot was opened on Friday, May 31st.

Public Meeting Held on January 9th 1/4/2013 Public Meeting
A public meeting for the Allied Paper/Portage Creek/Kalamazoo River site was held on Wednesday, January 9th. Updates were provided on Portage Creek dredging project Kalamazoo River clean up studies, Plainwell Mill, 12th Street Landfill, Willow Boulevard/A-Site Landfill, and Allied Paper Landfill projects. An updated Fact Sheet was posted to the 'documents' section of the website.

Excavation Complete in SA5C 10/11/2012 Site Update
On Thursday, October 10th, crews completed excavation of PCB contaminated sediments and backfilling in SA5C (Portage Creek from Crosstown Parkway to Vine Street). 

Excavation Complete in SA5D 9/28/2012 Site Update
Crews completed excavation of PCB contaminated sediments and backfilling in SA5D on September 21st and the Upjohn Park footbridge behind the Youth Center has been returned to service.

Excavation Complete in Axtell Creek 8/13/2012 Site Update
Crews completed excavation of contaminated sediments and backfilling in Axtell Creek on August 17th.

Excavation Complete in SA6 6/19/2012 Site Update
On Friday, June 15th, excavation and removal of contaminated sediments in the SA6 area was completed.

Public Meeting Held on May 31st 5/26/2012 Site Update
A public meeting was held on Thursday, May 31st in Kalamazoo.  An updated Fact Sheet on the status of the project is available at http://www.epa.gov/region5/cleanup/kalproject/pdfs/kalproject-fs-201205.pdf.  The Fact Sheet is also posted in the 'documents' section of this website.  The purpose of the public meeting was to update the community about the ongoing cleanup at Portage Creek..

On Tuesday, April 3rd, excavation and removal of contaminated soils in the SA7 area was completed.
