Solar Flare Removal - August 28
8/27/2012
Site Update
Work crews removed the solar flares adjacent to the equipment sheds on August 28th. These flares were no longer necessary to combust landfill gas as the methane concentrations are too low to support an open flame.
Landfill gas is still be extracted to prevent migration and is being safely vented to the atmosphere.

WORK UPDATE - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 2012
- The gas extraction system start-up and testing took place this afternoon
- The blowers and solar flares at both of the white equipment sheds are currently operational
- Residents may hear a whirring noise and hear air blowing out of the top of the flare outlets
- It is also possible that residents will see blue/orange flames coming from the tips of the flares. This is normal and means that the system is extracting methane and burning it off effectively
- Crews will be monitoring and adjusting the system on Thursday and Friday of this week

WORK UPDATE - TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2011
- Valve housings and covers were installed at or near all extraction wells
- Equipment sheds containing heavy duty blowers and extraction well control hardware were placed on the Area 1 & 2 flare pads. These sheds will supply the vacuum to the extraction wells to extract methane gas and will pipe it to solar flares, which will be installed later this week.
- Backfilling and grading was completed in the Farmers Market parking lot. The impacted area will be re-paved at a later date
FIELD ACTIVITIES ON HOLD
11/14/2011
Site Update
The equipment sheds and solar-operated flares which will be located on the landfill required special ordering. This equipment is scheduled to be delivered to the site the first week of December. Until this equipment arrives, field activities are on hold, aside from limited restoration activities being conducted by the City where trenches were excavated to install subsurface piping.
When equipment arrives, it will be installed and connected to the extraction wells. Once operational, methane gas present in the sub-surface soils will be drawn under vacuum to the solar flares for burning.

- The asphalt along the eastern edge of the Farmers Market lot and the concrete across the service drive at Clinton Place Apartments were saw cut. This will allow for trenching so that piping can be installed to connect two of the extraction wells with the flaring system on the landill.
- Nearly all trenching for the piping was completed on the northwest corner of the landfill property (near Park Place Towers). This trenching is necessary to connect extraction wells to the flaring system on the landfill.
- Trenching will continue tomorrow on the landfill near the Clinton Place Apartments and well drilling activity will commence on the seven extraction wells to be installed (4 near Clinton Place Apartments and 3 on the landfill property in the northwest corner).
