The Chesapeake Fire Dept. requested that EPA maintain a presence on the Site until work in the residential areas was completed.
During this period EPA sampled drinking water wells at two residences on Bannister street for Nitrates and Nitrites. On January 26, 2009 EPA received permission from homeowners to take the samples. EPA returned on Wednesday February 4, 2009 to sample the wells.
EPA OSC Laura Casillas received validated analytical data on February 25, 2009. The data shows that Nitrates and Nitrites were not detected. Nitrates and Nitrite levels are within safe drinking water parameters. Results are posted under the documents section of the www.epaosc.org allied terminals site.
Allied terminals continues to pump residues that flow onto the ditches and to do weekly air monitoring.
EPA will continue to monitor the status of residues that make their way onto street ditches.
Allied is working with the VDEQ to address potential storm water permitting issues from potential off-site migration of fertilizer residues.
