This two-acre Site, located in a rural, residential area at 91 Western Avenue, Henniker, New Hampshire (N Lat. 43° 10' 09", W Long. 71° 50' 34",), consists of the former disposal location of sludge and solid waste for the Contoocook Valley Paper Company (CVPC).

In response to a New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services request, EPA conducted a Removal Program Preliminary Assessment/Site Investigation (PA/SI) in the spring and early summer of 2003.

The key finding of the PA/SI was heavy metal contamination of surface and subsurface soils due to burial of sludge waste and on-site placement of bulk paper products. The primary metals of concern are: lead (up to 7,979ppm), cadmium (up to 1,340ppm), barium (24,480ppm), and chromium (up to 1,622ppm).

On July 28, 2003 an Action Memorandum was signed and on August 27, 2003 EPA began on-site removal activities.
