The Site operated as a dry cleaning operation for 45-50 years before closing in the mid 1990's. The facility used tetrachloroethylene as a dry cleaning solvent. The Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) and the U. S. EPA Superfund Remedial program are currently assessing the Site for possible inclusion on the Superfund National Priorities List. Recent sampling conducted by TDEC indicated elevated levels of PCE in the subsurface soils and in the groundwater. The EPA Remedial program requested the Emergency Response, Removal, and Planning Branch conduct a removal site evaluation to determine if a time critical removal is warranted.
