The Site is the location of a former fertilizer production plant operated by the Virginia Carolina Chemical (VCC) Company. The Birmingham Fertilizer Company (a subsidiary of VCC) purchased the property and constructed a fertilizer plant which operated from 1902 through 1958. Through a series of mergers and buyouts ExxonMobil became the corporate successor and agreed to address the contaminated soil associated with the fertilizer plant formerly located on this property.
