On May 25th 2018, at 1716 hours, the Tennessee Department of Emergency Management (TEMA) reported that a tanker truck was involved in a collision and rolled over into the Lake Ocoee in the area of US-64 and TN-30. The tanker truck was hauling 4000 gallons of gasoline and 4000 gallons of diesel fuel. The tanker truck is completely submerged in the Lake. The exact amount of oil spilled is unknown at this time; however, TEMA and Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation (TDEC) reported that there is oil in the water. State and local officials responded. Containment boom has arrived on scene and is being deployed. Notifications are being made to private and public drinking water intakes which are located approximately 30 river miles downstream. United States Department of Interior (USDOI) has been notified and a threatened and endangered species consult has been requested. The accident site is within the Cherokee National Forest. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has been notified as they have numerous power generation resources in the potential spill path. OSC Brian Englert was deployed to coordinate with Federal, State and Local resources.
