The Dempster Industries Site is located at 711 S. 6th St. in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska and covers approximately 10 acres. The Site is improved with nineteen buildings, totaling approximately 250,000 square feet. The facility served as a metal manufacturer for over 100 years but appears to have gone out of business in the early 2010s.
Region 7 EPA initiated a Time-Critical Removal Action in November 2021 to mitigate the immediate threats to public health, welfare, and the environment posed by the presence of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) wastes and PCB-containing electrical transformers and associated equipment at the Site , which have been and continue to be vandalized
for scrap copper salvage and therefore pose an imminent and substantial
threat of release. All PCB wastes generated during this removal action were shipped to an EPA-approved disposal facility on November 23, 2021.
The EPA Community Involvement Coordinator for the Site is Amelia Holcomb (Holcomb.Amelia@epa.gov), and the Public Affairs Specialist is Ben Washburn (washburn.ben@epa.gov).
