The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Region IX, in cooperation with the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), plans to initiate the removal of old aboveground oil storage tanks (tanks) and associated contaminated material at the former Naval Tanapag Fuel Farm (TFF). This project has been undertaken to assist in the capacity building for the CNMI DEQ site cleanup and related support programs. Through the implementation of this project, CNMI DEQ personnel will have the opportunity to assist with planning, sampling, contract oversight and implementation of a removal action. The project will serve as ‘on the job’ training in the complexities of planning, assessment, implementation and documenting completion of a cleanup project.
