In November 2005, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) performed an investigation of a property containing battery chips and casings. This was performed as a result of a complaint by the property owner at 8992 Horton Hwy (Hwy 31) in College Grove, TN. Prio to the current owner purchasing the property in 1998, it was divided into tracts and graded. The material associated with the grading was placed into two debris piles and was not touched for some time after. The current resident recently found the piles and contacted TDEC. An investigation was conducted by TDEC and found that the piles did contain lead contaminated battery chips and casings. It was also determined that this was also associated by the original College Grove Site for Beford, Williamson and Rutherford counties.
