At approximately 19:35 hours on March 29, 2009 a fire started in the area of the Plastics Shredder at the PSC Chemical Reclamation Services facility (TXD046844700) located in Avalon,TX.

The Avalon FD responded to the fire and it was extinguished by approximately 20:15 hours. Due to the fact that the facility handles a variety of hazardous chemicals, the Ellis County Sheriffs Dept. conducted an evacuation of nearby residences. No injuries were reported. The 2004 census gave a population of 130 for the city of Avalon, Texas.
